1. Unplug yourself, (computers, social media) The best way I have found to do this is by simply turning my phone to airplane mode, and powering off all of my electronics. I think of this as a digital detox. So much of my life revolves around the internet, computers and phones that it's refreshing to get a few hours to myself. I try to keep my bedroom free of gadgets, and prefer to keep books or magazines to unwind before bed.
2. Take a warm bath or a warm shower. The warm water, soothing bath salts and bath bombs help me to calm down and unwind. I am such a kid at heart that bubbles are a must for my baths. Epsom salts are another essential for me. I was at Bed Bath and Beyond the other day and noticed Epsom salts with lavender, you know I will be purchasing those very soon! Maybe light your favorite candle nearby to escape into your personal paradise!
3. Tea is my answer for anything. Being Indian, I am accustomed to multiple cups of tea a day. Now my fascination with tea has reached onto herbal and simpler teas. Therefore, you will always find my pantry well stocked of herbal teas. My favorites ones are the Yogi ones or the ones from Trader Joe's. One cup is all I need to calm down and unwind. Another great alternative to tea is warm water will lemon, honey and grated ginger.
4. Soup. On days I need something more substantial in my belly, I opt for miso soup. It is my go to comfort food, and is something that I can have bowls on end of. You can buy miso soup almost anywhere nowadays. It comes in a powder or paste form, and all you do is add boiling water, with any other additions you want. I always add some seaweed strips, some green onions and a few cubes of tofu, meat and eggs.
I hope you all have a relaxing night ahead!
