Like everything in life, we should try to: prevent before curing. This motto is even true when it comes to protecting your teeth! I have noted down a list of measures you can take, to protect your teeth from harmful habits. The more knowledge we know about taking care of your teeth, the less pain you will have to endure at your next dental visit!
1. Fluoride Seal
Fluoride, is an ingredient found in many toothpastes, can acutally help in protecting your teeth from decay and enamel destruction. To get a more effective flouride treatment, visit your dentist. Fluoride treatments form a thin, protective seal around your teeth to ward off any harmful bacteria.
2. Floss like a Boss
Flossing removes food and bacterial debris that usually gets stuck between your the tooth and gum, which in turn makes the bacteria less likely to stick around. There are many types of flossing aids that can be used, depending on what your prefer. Consult with your dentist, about which aid will work best for you.
3. Dental Purge
So every few months, we tend to do a makeup and skin care purge, where you toss out old products, due to expiration or just the fact that they start to look old and moldy. The same concept can be applied with your oral hygiene tools. It is recommended that you replace your toothbrush 3 to 4 times a year. Also, using soft-bristle brushes, which are gentle on the teeth and gums, help in keeping your enamel and gum tissue in tact. Electric toothbrushes are a great way to cleanse your teeth as well.
4. Always Rinse
I realize it is very difficult to get up from a businesses dinner or a lunch with your friends, to go brush your teeth, but it is crucial to at least get a rinse in. Rinsing can help dislodge food stuck to teeth or between your teeth and gums. Rinsing with a fluoride-fortified, anti- cavity mouthwash like LISTERINE® mouthwash keeps teeth protected. I try to carry sample or travel sized mouthwashes with me, to get a clean rinse in after meals. Not only does this remove any food or bacterial debris, but it also leaves your breath fresh and clean!
