I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to the new year!! Today's post is something that I think will be very useful after all the holiday parties we've all had! While I think it's great looking our absolute best, with all the make up trick we have mastered throughout the year, I always think my skin care gets lost in all the holiday season! So I thought I would share with you all some of my favorite holiday skin care tips that I do to treat my skin during this time of the year! Also since the new year has started, maybe new skin care routines are in order to help revive your skin back to it's youthful glory!
1. CLEANSING OILS
So it goes without saying, it's so important to remove all your make up after your parties! I recommend using a cleansing oil this winter. It's gentle enough on you skin and really breaks up your makeup easily..even waterproof mascara! This step has reduced my make up removing routine quite a lot! I no longer need separate eye and face make up removers! I am in love with the Trader Joe's Vitamin E oil. It's so affordable ( just like everything at Trader Joe's), and doesn't have an offensive odor to it! I just take a few drops of the oil onto my finger tips and start to massage my face with it. Really take your time with this step, and give yourself a mini face massage. It's nourishing on your skin and doesn't strip away any natural oils that your skin has. Once you have given yourself a good rub on your face, either take a cotton round or a washcloth and just gently wipe your face.
2. TREAT YOUR SKIN
You have been wearing make up quite a few nights by now, and while you may look absolutely stunning, your skin may not feel so hot by now! So to treat your skin after a crazy few rounds of holiday parties, take a few minutes to really pamper it! I love using clay based masks in the winter time, especially during the holidays. My go to clay mask is one that I have talked about before here on my blog. It's the Sabon Face Mud Mask ( check out my review if you haven't already :) ). Most clay masks have a very important ingredient which is bentonite clay which help in reducing your pores and smoothing out your skin. Clay mask help by cleaning out any impurities in your skin, so that would be all the foundation or powder residues that some face cleanser can't get deep down from your pores. These impurities are drawn our from your pores to the surface of your skin by the clay mask, which in turn helps washing away all the dead skin and dirt from your face! Doesn't that sound so detoxing?!
Toners are important to restore and maintain moisture in your skin! Many toners out there actually contain high levels of alcohol which actually just end up drying out your skin! So make sure to check the amount of alcohol your toner has! Since I have been applying quite a few chemicals on my skin from make up, I decided to go for a more natural route for my toner. I have been loving using good old apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar on it's own is an excellent product with a million good benefits ( a future blog post perhaps? ), but for today's post I will mention it's amazing toner properties! I use this diluted with water, since it is very potent on its own. I assure you, your skin will thank you!
Now that your skin is cleansed and clean, it's time to feed your skin with loads of moisture to give it that youthful appearance and feel! This step is important because you want to "feed" your skin good things, so that your skin stays nourished and balanced. If you have a holy grail moisturizer, this the time your pack it up on your skin! I have been obsessed with the Aveeno Daily moisturizer lately. It's a product I found by chance and am very surprised by how simple and good it! On days that I want a little more moisture, or my skin is feeling a little extra dry, I always reach for the L'occitance serum! Serums are another great way to moisturize and nourish your skin in the winter time, without leaving your skin feeling greasy!
This last step is something we have all heard a million time but somewhere down the road it just becomes random information! While cleansing and moisturizing your skin is super important, nothing shows through your skin more that dehydration. It is so important to stay hydrated from the simple task of drinking plenty of water through out the day! It's so simple to do, yet I myself always forget it now and again! I have started keeping a karaf on my bedside table to remind myself to have a glass before bed! Along with drinking plenty of water, I enjoy a facial steam too. I am so old school with this too! I just take the old fashioned pot of boiled water and a towel that covers my face on top of the bowl! There are a bunch of steamers out in stores, but I have never gotten around to getting one!
That's it! I hope you all found some helpful tips in today's post! I hope you all pamper your skin and are ready for a wonderful new year! Let me know what are some of your guys's pampering tricks!! Happy New Year everyone!
